The 900 Series GG-1

Built by the PRR starting in 1935, operated by Penn Central, Conrail, NJT and Amtrak

When Amtrak first started renumbering the GG-1s all they did was remove the "4" Only three units were renumbered like this 4902, 4908, 4931 ( 902, 908, 931 respectively). This idea was quickly dropped and all 30 were numbered into the 900-929 series.

In the spring of 1976, as part of the sale of the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak got another 11 GG-1s. These were never renumbered into the 900 series.

It would appear that the 900 series GG-1s were renumbered back into the 4900 series before the 900 series AEM-7s arrived in 1979.

All were retired by 1983
