Conrail Caboose Photo Archive -

The ex EL/DL&W N8D class

Caboose #19903-19909 and # 22000-22056 were originally constructed between 1951 and 1954 for the Delaware Lackawanna & Western, When DL&W merged with the EL their numbers became C850-C910.

Built on the thick frames of old steam locomotive tenders, these cars had a reputation
among the crews for riding hard .

Each caboose weighed about 57,400 Ibs.

By 1981 only nine were left on the roster
